Man, this video did not age well.....
only coup in American Soil....
Key point: He never mentions who did things like Jim Crow, Redlining and founded the KKK. Democrats. He glosses over that fact and he can't not know that.

4:43 I bet 20 dollars that Tucker would've been singing a very different tune if it were T*ump who was at John Louis's funeral
The KKK was founded twice, and President Wilson only made it worse
We didn’t even TOUCH on Washington owning slaves in school
Pterodesctils are not dinossaurus. Keep up the good work! Love you so much!
Dinasourus couldn't fly!. But i love jon!💖
At last a British person admitting how his ancestors fucked us Indians ancestors' over 😂😂😂
"History is written by the victors"
Annoys me that Oliver ignored the government commission that was set up to investigate the massacre and started programs and reparations to help the survivors of the massacre and their descendants. In 2010 there was a memorial park established in Tulsa. So yes, the way history is taught needs to be changed. The question is how? Personally, I think there should be a full context of the horrors of it, but taught at an age when children can process it.
How the F this video has 10k dislikes
The dude at the end talking about how the US is better than other countries just justifies Anti-Americanism
Fact of the day: the baptist church supported slavery for most of the 19th century
Sadly in some states theyve taken this as lets teach about the civil war from a censored point of view where they have to censor slavery. In my state of West Virginia they told all the history teachers to censor the civil war so they wouldnt offend anybody.
Why are we held responsible for slavery when people from over a century ago are the ones responsible.
Hahhahahhahah eeeeeeeeeee mummy orgasm nice Oliver nice ......lep pozdrav iz Slovenije
I have to say, the phrase "American Exceptionalism" is one of the most terrifying things to me. It makes me irrationally angry and disappointed any time I hear it used unironically.

It's like the "What would you do if you could time travel to [insert time period/event before 1995 here]" in class and having the women, the brown and Black kids, and the kids with disabilities or medications or in poverty go "Die, probably." History is so biased that those questions aren't even flagged...
“The only coup on American soil” Uhhh.... who’s gonna tell him?
In a *very* broad sense, I kind of understand what that "American exceptionalism" guy at the end is looking for. I get that he wants his children to grow up proud of who they are and be inspired to do great things. But blindly believing that the US is the best at everything will have the opposite effect that he desires. If a kid grows up hearing about how wonderful and flawless they and their country are, why should they strive to improve anything, since they're already allegedly the best? All that kind of attitude will bring is misplaced, inflated egos and complacency.

The only coup no longer
I think everyone in India knows that the real reason for the civil war is slavery.
He who holds the pen..
Meanwhile my parents brought me up fully aware of what we Brits did: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, we did ALL of that, every little bit of it.
17:23 ... 50 years later we still march with signs that read 'We Demand an end to police brutality now!'.... Man, this country is fucked-up.
"George Floyd's murder..." In one line, with one three word phrase, John is more direct and to the point about recent US history than any news source or almost any politician.
Damn the Shane Dawson shade tho
This show is so much better without background laughter. I hope they keep it out after covid

Wilmington ain't the only Coup on American soil where White Supremacists tried overthrow democratically elected officials and install a new racist one anymore.
That woman may be dead, but her ideology lives on in her children. That's where Laura Ingraham comes from.
Yeah...only coup....goddammit, history rhymes
A couple months ago a teacher in my province, British Columbia, gave her students an assignment: list 3 positive outcomes of Residential Schools. If you know Canadian history at all you'll see just how fucked up that assignment is.
Groundhogs day is A national treasure. How Dare You!!!
"the only coup de etat on american soil" oh how much that changed 5 months later
Online forums in which white children play video games together? John... You are such a dad, jokes write themselves around you.
Am I alone when I was confused as to why Rorschach's image was used by white supremacists fascists in HBO's watchmen? I read the comic and I don't think his journal in the epilogue would inspire a racist, anti-police movement, lol

@Lizardguy NA I think it was just bad writing on HBO's part, at no point did any character mention Rorschach as a former member of the Watchmen, and his image being appropriated by the Kavalry went unexplained, lol

18:00 - Wow! This video was released in August 2020.
The only coux attempted on American soil? In less than a year, that line has become outdated, what a damn shame
6 months later, there needs to be an edit to this video . . .
Always learn something new from theses videos. Apparently I am a monster and must get to grips with smores
HBO did it again, like they did with Chernobyl. A complete masterpiece

The "only coup d'etat on American soil" line hasn't aged well...
It seems like the side that cries indoctrination of children is indoctrinating kids. The pledge of allegiance, purposely teaching wrong history, messed up Anti drug information lies. It’s so hard to whitewash history but they try. I went through the public school system and never learned about the Tulsa race riot. It wasn’t until pbs I found out about it. It only takes 1 match to bring light to the darkest room. Our schools could better but they are being sabotaged
"The worst day in America is still the best day in any other country" - it's History class, not making-things-up Class
They were “lazy and...vicious.” I’m sorry, but isn’t laziness defined by a lack of effort, while vicious is defined by extreme effort to do harm? You can’t be both.
His remark about the only coup on American soil has aged poorly
18:06 Aaaah I am afraid that streak of no coupe d’etat by white supremacists has come to an end
Oh, really the only coup d'etat on American soil... Whoops
American history that is taught in school is nothing more then propaganda.
Orwell was spot on when he wrote “Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.”
Look up troost divide or troost wall. And tell me Racism and segregation doesn’t still exist. There is a street that literally separate the richest white community and most of Kansas City’s black population
I can't believe there are calls for Jefferson's statue to be torn down.
This episode is so fucking important. This show is so fucking important.
No longer the only coup on American soil. Same fucking hogs, too.
It's funny hearing that becaude my brother's wife doesn't believe in dinosaurs (she is very religious).
Why does Tucker Carlson look like sleazier Todd Howard? I didn't know that was possible
2021 correction: The only *successful* coup on American soil.
I agree with teaching history 'warts and all', but such lessons should be unbiased and really should include all the details and context of what happened. They should not just be: 'Europeans are evil' which seems to be the current trend and is just as simpistic and stupid as 'Europeans are the best' which was previously in vogue. The truth lies in the middle somewhere and is far more complicated.
im not even an american and even i knew about tulsa massacre. I love cracked.com
Yeah bro. Santa The Easter bunny The tooth fairy I don't understand why we insist on lying to children
I learned about the Holocaust. We were shown horrific photos and such, teacher even read Night to us.... so why weren’t we taught the honest horrors of slavery? That was kinda glossed over.

Please Do A Piece on Michael Jackson Hi, I’m writing to you because Last Week Tonight as opposed to other such shows actually cares about issues rather than chasing the headlines. It has been 11 years since Michael Jackson passed away yet to this day what the common consensus is that he is a taboo subject for many. I recall you guys once did a piece on Public Shaming. Michael Jackson was a genius, an abused child. He was strange. He was one of the few major stars from the 80s who came out of the 80s without a heroine addiction. He in his own way did many, Many strange things, but so do most other superstars. And more than others he actually cared. About children, about the earth. About the issues we are discussing to this day. While Icons like Freddy Mercury, Elvis Pressley, Prince, Beetles and many more are known for their good works, Michael is known for the something which he has repeatedly been acquitted for. It’s the truth that anyone looking for will find instantly but due to the “where there is smoke there is a fire” narrative, even 11 years after his death, the new media treats him like a criminal. All his trial pages are open for the public to read. He WAS weird. Making a ranch called neverland, hanging out with children. Trusting people he shouldn’t. But I urge you please cover him, hear beyond the noise like you guys often do. The most successful African American Artist of all time was a humble man child, who respected women, loved children and cared about our environment. He was not a heroine junkie, a private man who did not share his disease even all the way back in 1993 even though he was accused of wanting to become a “White Man”. He was eccentric. Hanging out with animals and caring about them. theobjectivestandard.com/2020/02/justice-for-michael-jackson/ This article covers multiple sources, some of which I had read previously. Michael Jackson was a multi talented millionaire pop star, who was not an alcoholic, was a caring father, a filial son, Treated women with respect, cared about the planet and it’s beings. The press that constantly kept DASHING him, had found a way to subvert their guilt. All those years of calling him a “Jacko”, “monkey” and many more hurtful things was justified if he was a paedophile. They NEEDED him to be guilty. Such a man cannot exist in Hollywood. Such public shaming had allowed and to this day allows Michael to be a victim to all this slander. Please do a piece, if not one that exonerates him then one that once and for all cements the fact the Michael Jackson, the greatest pop star, the first African American Idol was a paedophile. Not through unknown sources or flimsy headlines but through concrete proof. A news echoing in a closed chamber will not reach anyone, most fans who what to know the truth know it, other people will read the headlines but not the explanations. It’s about time the general public knows. Please do a piece on Michael, the blatant mistreatment by the media, The systematic racism he faced during his trials. Please don’t let the first African American Singer be remembered for the things he did not do, He was weird, weird enough to annoy Freddy Mercury with Bubbles feedbacks, weird enough to let kids crack raw eggs over Michael Jackson, Weird enough to play water balloons with children. But he was not a paedophile and the world needs to acknowledge that. He was in no way a “Perfect Human” but he tried his best to live right and we should not punish him for doing that. On this year please exonerate this Black man, the Justice System has done it two decades ago, it’s about time everyone else does. Please do a piece on Michael Jackson. #spreadtheawareness #justiceformichael #hedeservedbetter
Wasn't JFK assassinated because he agreed with MLK ?

Basically American schools love whitewashing

@Pan-European Slavic Socialist Ultranationalist ...MLK was assassinated. Let's not pretend he wasn't "punished"...
I grew up and went to school in Georgia public schools. I was taught basically slaves enjoyed being slaves and stayed even though Lincoln freed them. That the civil war was fought for states rights and that Columbus was a noble explorer until 6th grade when I had a history teacher from the north east, Mrs. Rhyne. She taught us about how the civil war was fought over slavery and that Columbus was an asshole who died disgraced and from mental illness. That the pilgrims gave the Native Americans small pox. The truth. And honestly it carried with me throughout my education. I’m 27, have two bachelor’s degrees, and I am still learning how ass backwards history was taught during my school years. I am disgusted to even to have thought any of it to be true.

How old are you?
I know people that don't believe that even happened ffs they have family that fought in ww2 as Well, I.... I tried, now they think Trump is a hero, and that he's going to take back the power of the government power those who have it.... yet they get choked when insimply compare it to what he did with it when he had it like bolster bank funds of those close to him and those who really didn't need it, they say fake, my info is fake, then I remind him that if he was so powerful when he was President why did he lose his power. On that note, an angry mob of people that are already angry for reasons they don't fully understand are easy to guide, wall you have to do is point. They just don't realize they are angry because of the actions of the one pointing and they are only pointing because they won't take the blame for anything specially if it hurts there brand, how can they accept blame for it when hurting your brand/company/name is illegal for the entity of such a thing is literally considered a person. Not saying you made your bed, just asking you to was your sheets before you think of laying in it. Because like water being on the stock market, companies being people is a fucking awful idea. I've said my piece, all I want is peace for if you prick us do we not all bleed the samething, blood. Rights are right because they are right for us all, not just the privileged few.
We don't really have the same problem here in Scotland as we never really had any racial minorities here, but we had our fair share of massacres........by the english!
Wow! I'm really embarrassed to say it, but the first time I watched this was the first time I heard of either is those massacres😱. I plan on finding more info. I was also shocked to see how slavery was made to sound kind of like a picnic
This show has aged well through the pandemic all the others cant have a guest save them
I remember when my history teacher kept saying the civil war was not about slavery but states rights. I’m only 22.
As an adult, I'm sadly realizing that my history education was very poor. We've been indoctrinated to love America. We need to teach our kids the truth.

@MrM I actually think that a lot of US citizens believe this. 99% of them have never even left their own country, so I don't know how they would know if it was great or not. I also think that many years ago the US was outstanding in comparison to many other countries around the world. So it was like comparing your country to some poor underdeveloped country, but these days there are many countries that are better developed and with greater levels of education and standard of living than the USA so they are not great anymore, in fact if you look at all of the indicators of a great country they probably only score on military might. Even this could be achieved by any country that was as enthusiastic as the US about their military.

Wow. Now, there has been a second coup attempted by white supremacists in the US.
Wilmington North Carolina was the only place to have a coup détat... So far...
Talking about the histories of America is too much to count and glorious to talk about, i'm new here can anyone share ideas of a better business to go into that can be very productive
My history test told me to “write an essay from the perspective of a Southerner whose state just seceded.” I wrote one from the perspective of a Northerner instead, because I’m not writing something from the perspective of a person who owned slaves.
"Only coup d'etat on American soil." I'm sure that statement will age well John.

Reason why we need term limits and age limits in government. Thing about that woman's kids those people are still in power. We could have change much faster if we didnt have people wanting to keep the status quo just cuz humans dont like change that kids are learning to become adults. That one guy at the end, I hate how people can frame stuff. *focusing* on the negatives. We wouldnt be focusing on negatives we would just tell history. a lot of things look bad cuz in past and good to know yea that is bad we dont and wont do that. Also need to change mentality of people I bet he is the type of guy that cannot admit he is wrong or doesnt know or always takes being corrected as an attack(im surprised at how many people are like this. I want to be corrected so im not saying wrong stuff. of course I can tell by how being corrected if being done to inform me or attacking me.) Then there is the straight up dumb BS. America is not the greatest for everybody. maybe better than a large part of the world but thats not everybody's experience and thinking everything is perfect means no need to change anything. I think this also leads back to church authority where you dont question what you are being told. If I say things are this way than it is this way. Also why I think these same people got tricked by trump for voting fraud claims cuz they dont need evidence just the word of an authority figure.
I am from India and even i knew that shit happened

More upsetting yet is acting like human life is a political turf. :( Alot of the issues we have now would not be a severe, imo, if we were made to look at this history face first, forced to see in order to both comprehend and more yet empathize. To look at our fellow humans and bring forth a need to protect and make sure that history never repeated or reimagined. To cast a hand of protection and not look at the current outcries as some anti white front and understand that it is the slap in the face needed that we must do our part to help now and not pass by as we have for generations in a "i dont hate xyz people but really this is not my problem." way.
now there are 2 coups that happened on American soil...
